Brewer Science Thanks Community For Supporting Ride To The River at Summerfest
Jun 15, 2004
Brewer Science would like to extend a big "Thank You" to the community for the tremendous participation at the Ride to the River event. This year marked the 10-year anniversary of this Brewer Science–sponsored family bicycle ride that has been a part of the Rolla Summerfest. Also, we would like to thank Mr. John Slowenskey and the Rolla High School Jazz Band for performing. Additional thanks go to Route 66 Bicycles for donating a bicycle won by one of the participants.
Two hundred bicyclists participated in the 13-mile ride from Buehler Park to Arlington Riverview Campground near Doolittle, Mo. At the campground, recognition was given in several categories. The largest family group, with six members participating, received special recognition. Also recognized was the participant from Texas, who traveled the farthest to take part in the ride. Our oldest rider, 77 years young, was recognized with a special medal. Special recognition was given to the youngest person, a 1 year old who rode as a passenger on a parent-powered bicycle. The youngest rider to pedal the 13-mile journey was 3 years old and also received a special medal.
Several local organizations played a vital role in making the Ride to the River a safe and protected event. Thank you to Phelps County and the State Highway Department for their attention to the roads traveled by our participants. Thank you to the Rolla Police Department and the Phelps County Sheriff's Department for escorting our riders out of the park and accompanying them along the route.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the many Brewer Science employees who volunteered their time and talent to make this a successful event. We received many positive comments from the participants about the Ride to the River, Summerfest and the Rolla community.
