Brewer Science Receives Edmund Ward Bishop Award

May 17, 2004

Dr. Terry Brewer, founder of Brewer Science, was honored with the Edmund Ward Bishop Award on Saturday, March 6, 2004, at the Rolla Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet.   The award is given annually to an outstanding individual who has demonstrated a lifetime of dedication to the Rolla community.

In addition to providing innovative products for the microelectronics industry, Brewer Science has been actively finding innovative ways to help raise local and global awareness of and appreciation for education, the arts and the environment.

Brewer Science recently hosted its first waste tire collection, which allowed area residents to bring old truck and automobile tires to our collection site where the rubber was hauled off for use as fuel for power plants.   Brewer Science has also sponsored numerous household hazardous waste community events, which provided residents with the opportunity to properly dispose of unwanted chemicals in an environmentally safe manner.

Dr. Terry Brewer accepts the Edmund Ward Bishop Award for dedication to the Rolla Community from Rolla Chamber of Commerce president, Bill Jenks.

For the last 10 years, Brewer Science has sponsored the Ride to the River, a family bicycle ride during the Rolla Summerfest.  Brewer Science also actively participates in the sponsorship of the Ozark Actors Theatre and Arts Rolla and works as a partner to facilitate the Peaceful Bend Chamber Music Festival.  Providing support for this summer music festival series has brought world-renowned artists such as the Jacques Thibaud String Trio from Berlin and Douglas Niedt, a classical guitarist, to the Rolla community.  Providing support for local performing arts as well as the sponsorship of several public radio programs has enriched the community.

Brewer Science also actively supports children's workshops for science, art and theatre in a variety of ways.  Working closely with area schools, businesses and organizations, Brewer Science helps with science fairs, conducts seminars, and partners on a wide variety of topics.  Brewer Science continues to be an active supporter for the Solar Car Team and the Solar House Team at the University of Rolla, Missouri. Through our summer intern program, many college students are provided the opportunity to experience learning in a non-traditional manner through our mentoring program.

This award will be on display at the corporate headquarters building, located in Rolla, Missouri, USA.
