Dedicated to the Arts, Brewer Science Helps Bring Traditional Chinese Music to MSU
September 19, 2012 – Brewer Science is pleased to invite the public to attend a special concert of traditional Chinese music. The concert will be held on Friday, September 28, at 7:30 PM in Ellis Recital Hall on the Missouri State University (MSU) campus in Springfield, MO. This concert is free and open to the public.
This event is part of the music exchange program that began in 2007 between MSU and Qingdao University. Brewer Science has assisted with bringing Chinese music teachers from Qingdao University to MSU to teach students to play traditional Chinese musical instruments. The music exchange program includes faculty members and students from both universities and provides an opportunity for participants to spend time at the other school to become immersed in the musical culture.
The music exchange program includes three Chinese performers who are professors at Qingdao University. Meng Lei is Professor of Dizi (bamboo flute) and Assistant Director of the College of Music. Zhang Ruirui is Professor of Erhu (two-string fiddle), and Jin Tingting is Professor of Pipa (lute).
The concert will feature Meng Lei ,Zhang Ruirui and Jin Tingting. In addition, MSU students from the Chinese Music Ensemble, with whom the teachers will have worked with during their visit, will also perform at the concert.
