Brewer Science Shares Vision about the Semiconductor Industry at SEMICON West

Jul 3, 2014

July 01, 2014 - Rolla, Mo. – The semiconductor industry is going through a major wave of consolidation along with serious technological challenges for advancing lithography. Semiconductor device scaling is still in a search for the most cost-effective path to high-volume manufacturing (HVM).

Dr. Terry Brewer, president and founder of Brewer Science, Inc., will share his vision on the topic of “R&D in a Consolidating Semiconductor Landscape” during a panel discussion at the IMEC Technology Forum on July 7, organized in conjunction with SEMICON West. Over 30 years ago, Dr. Brewer invented anti-reflective coatings (ARC® materials), which revolutionized lithography processes and are now a standard for advanced lithography.

Dr. Douglas Guerrero of Brewer Science will present his assessment on the readiness of extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUVL) for HVM and the roles multiple patterning and alternative technologies such as directed self-assembly (DSA) will play as the industry transitions to 14 nm and below. According to Dr. Guerrero, “EUVL’s delayed entry into manufacturing has pushed materials and processes to provide solutions for sub–30 nm patterning. Current strategies for patterning for future nodes rely on ArF immersion lithography plus complementary techniques. New device architecture, immersion lithography, negative-tone development, double and multiple patterning, and DSA have demonstrated capabilities for extending lithography nodes by utilizing innovative processes and materials.”

To hear Dr. Guerrero’s talk titled “Evaluation of Material and Process Readiness for Future Nodes” at SEMICON West, please attend the Readiness of Advanced Lithography Technologies for HVM session on July 9 at Moscone North Center.

Brewer Science is a key enabler of advanced lithography by providing early material and process solutions. The company continues to develop innovative new concepts to support future technology nodes. In May, Brewer Science opened a new state-of-the-art HVM facility located at the Rolla National Airport in Missouri, proving its commitment to grow and to continue playing an important role as material and process supplier for the semiconductor industry.
