July 3, 2014 - Springfield, Mo. – Brewer Science today announced the completion of its largest expansion in the Springfield area, with the company gaining additional floor space at the Missouri State University’s Roy Blunt Jordan Valley Innovation Center (JVIC). The expansion adds 4,600 sq. ft. of space for Brewer Science’s research and advanced manufacturing operations for a total of 12,450 sq. ft. across two floors at the facility. Brewer Science, known for its innovations that have made microelectronic devices smaller and more powerful, will use this new space to develop next-generation carbon-based materials and electronics that will enable smartphones, computers, and other electronic devices to operate using less power.
“Brewer Science is pleased and proud to announce our expansion at JVIC, where our innovators and researchers are working every day to deliver next-generation technologies that will improve people’s lives,” said Dr. Brewer. “We have been at JVIC from the beginning in 2007, and when we had the opportunity to expand our footprint here, we jumped at the chance. We have enjoyed a great partnership with Missouri State University at this world-class facility that is doing so much for education, innovation, and the community of Springfield. We are especially excited that this expansion will support our production of carbon-based sensors and devices that have been in development over the last three years.”
Carbon-based electronics possess unique properties that can potentially reduce the power consumed by all electronics, from small portable devices to large server farms, by as much as 50 percent. The result will positively impact the environment through dramatic reductions in the space server farms would require and the significant energy efficiencies that can then be achieved. The new technologies developed and manufactured at JVIC by Brewer Science can also be used to create nanosensors, which have diverse applications including personal health monitoring. For example, these sensors may one day alert a person with asthma of an oncoming attack before it happens, much like a service light in a vehicle.
“Brewer Science has consistently been at the forefront in developing and manufacturing innovative products and technology. I’m pleased this second expansion of the Jordan Valley Innovation Center will continue to bring economic growth to Southwest Missouri and grow private sector jobs across Missouri.” - U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (Mo.)
"Being on the Energy and Commerce Committee, I truly appreciate the role research and development plays in improving our nation's manufacturing sector. The exciting work being done at Brewer Science plays an integral part in building a robust manufacturing sector," Rep. Long said. Brewer Science is a Missouri-based innovator and manufacturer, creating high-technology solutions used by the top semiconductor companies around the world. This is Brewer Science’s second expansion this year after opening a state-of-the-art high-volume manufacturing building in Vichy, MO, in May. In more than 30 years of success and impacting the microelectronics industry and people’s lives, the company has grown its Missouri-based facilities and capacity nine times, creating more jobs and increasing the economy and infrastructure in many communities within the state of Missouri. Brewer Science has been at the JVIC facility since its opening in 2007, and this is the company’s second expansion at this location.
