Brewer Science Is Awarded The Fred Schmitt Award for Outstanding Corporate Leadership

Aug 2, 2005

Brewer Science is pleased to announce that it has been selected to receive The Fred Schmitt Award for Outstanding Corporate Leadership from the National Recycling Coalition.

Brewer Science was nominated after implementing a company-wide Mini Bin Recycling Program where employees are provided a small 5-1/2" x 5-1/2" garbage can and a much larger recycling bin. Brewer Science's waste stream now contains less than 10% recyclable material. The company's focus on recycling and waste reduction initiatives have resulted in the cutback of one trash pickup per week even though the company has grown by 18% over the last three years.

Brewer Science also sponsors and coordinates annual household hazardous waste collections for the community, which have brought in nearly 122,000 pounds of toxic material.  The company has also organized an electronics waste collection that brought in seven tons of scrap and a tire collection that netted 250 tons of waste tires from the Phelps County landscape.

The Fred Schmitt Award for Outstanding Corporate Leadership is awarded to a company that has furthered recycling through a dedicated, successful corporate office. The National Recycling Coalition is a not-for-profit organization committed to the advancement and improvement of recycling in order to conserve resources and benefit the environment.
