Brewer Science Fostering Tomorrow’s STEM Leaders Through Innovative Internships

July 17, 2015 – Rolla, MO – As a technology leader, Brewer Science has a earned a reputation as a company that is well ahead of the industry in developing and manufacturing advanced materials and equipment for the fabrication of cutting-edge electronic devices. Remaining at the forefront of technology is a hallmark of Brewer Science’s culture, and that includes providing encouragement and opportunities for students with a desire to apply their science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education.

“This is more than a traditional summer job,” says Alan Gerson, Executive Director of Human Resources. “As we continue to expand and improve our Global Intern/CO-OP Program, we are also multiplying the high-skilled talent required to continue our company’s growth. Our Global Intern/CO-OP Program consists of 15 to 20 students year-round. However, we expand our program during the summer to more than 60 students. We are committed to personal growth and development for each of our interns. Our program is dedicated to building a pipeline of talented future Brewer Science employees and to meeting the ongoing challenge of leading the world in innovative technology. Brewer Science has been very successful in welcoming interns as full-time employees, with approximately 78% of eligible interns and co-op students becoming full-time employees.”

High school students to doctorate-level college students from across the world are offered hands-on experience in a wide range of functions within the company, including everything from chemical engineering to human resources. Along with the hands-on experience, there are also opportunities to learn through workshops, which cover a wide range of topics such as “Fostering Innovation” to “Leading to Empower.”

During the summer months, interns are giving back to the community through a program called “Giving Back Through STEM Education.” Examples include: • Interns hosted and presented a Science Day Academy for three local Missouri elementary (Belle, St. James, and Vienna schools) summer school programs. • For the third consecutive year, Brewer Science interns will host a Science & Art Festival, which includes the Mad Scientist 5K Run/Walk, to raise STEM awareness for rural science education programs, while raising money to donate to the Belle and Vienna high school science programs.
