June 20, 2014 – Rolla, MO – Brewer Science will be hosting its premier fitness event, the “Mad Scientist” 5K Run/Walk and Science Family Fun Day, on August 9th at the Prairie Star Restoration Farm. In addition to promoting wellness with a 5K cross-country run/walk, Brewer Science employees will be introducing younger community members to the intriguing world of science and technology. The proceeds from this event will benefit science classrooms at the Belle and Vienna schools, and Brewer Science will match a portion of the total amount raised.
“This is the second year that Brewer Science is bringing science into the community with an interactive evening of learning, fitness, and fun that will help raise money to help local schools,” said Dr. Terry Brewer, president and founder of Brewer Science. “Brewer Science is an advocate for STEM education, and this is a great opportunity to bring communities together to support, encourage, and inspire future generations of innovators and scientists.”
The Science Family Fun Day will begin Saturday, August 9, at 4:00 pm with events and entertainment featuring carnival food, a wagon ride, a nature walk, and child-friendly science experiments at Prairie Star Restoration Farm. The Rolla High School Robotics Team and Kaleidoscope Discovery Center will also contribute to the evening’s technology-centered entertainment. The entry fee for all Science Family Fun Day events is a $2 suggested admission fee for those 13 and up; a $1 for children ages 3-12; and no charge for those 2 and younger.
This summer’s Mad Scientist 5K Run/Walk will cover an off-road course and will begin at 6:30 pm. The entry fee is $25 per person or $60 for a team of 3. Team plaques will be awarded to the top 3 teams of 3. Individual medals will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in each age group by gender. The age group categories are 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60+. All run/walk participants will receive a t-shirt, a chip-timed race, and entry into the Family Fun Event.
