Brewer Science Hosts St. Joseph's Academy Students to Promote STEM Careers for Women

February 4th, 2015 – Rolla, Mo. – In an effort to inspire more women to consider a career in technology and innovation, Brewer Science, Inc., today hosted the women of St. Joseph’s Academy in St. Louis for a special tour and lunch briefing on the possibilities that await them if they pursue an education in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM).

“We were thrilled to host this incredible group of young women from St. Joseph’s Academy. Though just beginning, they are already pioneers questing after science,” said Dr. Terry Brewer, founder and president of Brewer Science. “They were an engaging group that posed a lot of great and tough questions to our team. We were excited to provide them with a behind-the-scenes tour of our operations with the hope of inspiring them to consider a career in a STEM-related field.”

The event was the result of a STEM seminar held in St. Louis last May sponsored by the St. Louis Business Journal, Brewer Science, the Missouri University of Science and Technology, and others. With more men than women entering STEM careers, Dr. Brewer and a panel of experts discussed solutions to help more women consider and pursue jobs in STEM fields.

One of those solutions was to show young women firsthand the world-changing possibilities offered by STEM-related fields. Dr. Brewer said that while discussing ideas at a seminar is important, even more important is putting those ideas into practice.

“Businesses must supply young people, especially young women, with real-world experience and mentorship that show them the opportunities offered in STEM-related fields,” said Dr. Brewer. “Too often the importance of inspiring young people is lost in the rhetoric about STEM education. We at Brewer Science had one goal today: Inspire the next generation of young women to be the innovators of tomorrow.”
